Really, Dutch Girls?

Recently I found myself frowning at an article in the free Amsterdam Magazine titled “The Ten: Ways To Impress a Dutch Girl.”  If this article is true for the average Dutch girl, to use the author’s own hypocritical choice of noun for “woman,” then it’s a grim dating world in the Netherlands.

What I concluded from the article is that Dutch girls are control-freaks and confused horndogs but it was advice # 8 that irritated me a little.  “Tell her you’re Italian and you’re lost.”  The few single Dutch women I’ve met complained, as did all foreign women I’ve talked to, that the beautiful Dutch men are too passive.  From what I gather Dutch women fought really hard for women’s rights and for gender equality, to a point where they seem to have, according to Dutch men I’ve met, gotten hold of Dutch men’s balls.

The author of the article makes it clear that “[a] Dutch chick is woman enough to pay her own bills” and advises on “how to be man enough to handle a confident Dutch chick” while making such statements as “Dutch girls are strong and confident” but at the end of the day she’s highly dissatisfied with the result of her own mindset: the Dutch man.  At the end of the day, after proudly assuring us that she rejects “ladydom” along with the Yin-Yang that is such offensive behavior as the traditional man-woman relationship, the Dutch girl is mostly interested in a man who by nature treats a woman as a woman: the Latin man.  Talk about having your stroopwafel and eating it too!

But it’s ok girls, there are plenty of Latin Yang to go around, just don’t go breaking them too.  Because if I catch Latin men forgetting their balls at home this Latin chick’s going to come knocking at your door to explain the correlation between a Brazilian bikini wax and a man opening the door for you.  But I digress.
